My Experience In China As An English Teacher
I decided to teach English in China to get to know the culture and I don’t regret my decision. I already spent a little more than three years here in China and I’m grateful for the experiences I had as an English teacher and for sure I won’t trade those experiences for anything else. I know it’s not for everyone but it is for me. Not everybody loves adventure the same way and maybe there are some good teachers who are afraid to take the challenge of leaving their own reality and environment.
The schools in general pay attention to the experience the foreign teachers may have which is good, however the other side is that some schools that look for teachers with the minimal requirements may get people who care less about teaching or even to know another country and appreciate the culture where they go. The Asian ESL industry is very large and in China there is a variety of schools good and bad and the good schools care about teaching and education. They are honest to follow throug on their contracts and care about their teachers avoiding this way any sudden disapperance of their teachers.
The fact of being in an exotic and cultural different country like China is wonderful. I’ve seen sights that take my breath away and get to know very friendly people that makes my stay in China worthy, just a great experience. I think being in China has helped me grow as a person and learn to accept people different from me and be accepted the same way. Not everything is perfect but I deal with that every day and get the best I can from the people, myself and the new experience I’m leaving every moment in this fantastic and host country, China.
