Hello, my name is Gary Tourjee and I’ve been teaching almost two years at Lianyungang Foreign Language School. I have a Masters Degree in Education, and a TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) certificate from Oxford Seminars.I incorporate several methods of instruction. I lecture to introduce new words with the added tools of drawing pictures, displaying pictures with my computer on the large classroom screen, or pictures in a PowerPoint, or occasionally, I display a Word.doc with English and Chinese translation. For oral English I have students repeat passages after I read a sentence, or part of a sentence, by repeating my pronunciation and intonation. They practice in pairs asking questions and answering. Students also do book work independently or in pairs before going over the answers as a class. Activities such as small group work, songs or games are also used to engage students’ interest.Prior to coming to China I was a substitute teacher for three years in Connecticut, USA. Before my career as a teacher, I was a telephone installation/repair technician for AT&T in Connecticut. After eleven years with AT&T I decided to earn a Master’s Degree to teach children and young adults because I enjoy their youthful energy, and apparently, they enjoy my outgoing personality and humor. However, classroom management is very important and when the students begin to think my class is play time, I remind them that we are here to learn. I try to make learning fun, but not at the expense of an unruly classroom.

大家好,我的名字叫盖瑞·图尔杰,我在江苏省连云港市外国语学校教书已有两年,我是教育学硕士,且有对非英语国窖教授英语的证书(TEFL)。
我结合了多种教学方法,我讲授新单词的方法主要为:
1、以图形的模式辅助学生理解
2、将我上课用的图片,用电脑连接投影仪展示在电视屏幕上
3、偶尔,也会用文档形式,将中英文展示出来。对于学生的英语口语方面,我通常让学生跟读,我读一篇文章或文章的一部分,之后让学生模仿我的语音语调进行跟读,之后互相提问与回答。学生也会在课前独立的或小组形式对书本的内容进行讨论。课堂活动通常有以小组为单位进行的小游戏,歌曲等都会激起学生的兴趣。
在来中国之前,我在美国的康乃狄克州做了三年的代课老师。在我当老师以前,我在美国电话电报公司做安装维修人员,在该公司工作十一年之后,我决定考取教育学硕士学位,我极其喜爱学生们年轻的气息,并且显而易见的是,学生们也喜爱我外向的性格以及幽默感。除此之外,如何组织好一节课是很重要的,当学生认为我们的课程就是玩乐时间,那么我会告诉他们,我们在这里是学习的,我一直尝试着使学生在玩中学,这个方法虽好,但很多学生会违反课堂纪律,这样就达不到边玩边学的效果。
